The steps, in detail

  1. 01

    Install the plugin

    Plugins › Add New

Download the plugin above (vokyt.zip). In WordPress, open Plugins › Add New Plugin, then click "Upload Plugin".

Choose vokyt.zip, click "Install Now", then "Activate Plugin". A reminder stays visible until the key is added.

  2. 02

    Copy your secret key

    Vokyt dashboard

In your Vokyt dashboard, open "Sites and integration". Make sure your blog's domain is in the allowed domains.

Click "New secret key" and copy it right away: for your security, it is only shown once.

  3. 03

    Paste the key into WordPress

    Settings › Vokyt

Back in WordPress, open Settings › Vokyt and paste the key. Save.

The plugin checks the connection right away and shows your Vokyt site's name. The key stays on your server: it is never sent to your readers' browsers.

  4. 04

    Record your first voice note

    "Vokyt voice note" block

In a post, go below the paragraph you want to comment on and type "/vokyt" to add the "Vokyt voice note" block.

Click "Record", talk for 30 seconds to a minute, then "Stop and send". Vokyt levels the sound and transcribes it within seconds. You can also upload an audio file or reuse an existing voice note.

  5. 05

    Publish

    The player goes live

Publish your post as usual. The Vokyt player shows up below the paragraph, with the transcript in the page, readable by search engines and screen readers.

The player picks up your theme's font and colours. Listening stats land in your dashboard, without cookies.

Classic editor or page builder?

Use the shortcode, with the voice note ID shown on its page in your Vokyt dashboard:

[vokyt note="note_…"]

Bonus: dictation

The plugin also adds dictation to the editor: microphone icon at the top right, or Ctrl/Cmd + Shift + D. You speak, the text lands as paragraphs, without the "ums".

Frequently asked questions

Does the plugin slow down my site?

No. The player script (about 7 KB compressed) only loads on pages that show a voice note, and the voice note data is already in the HTML.

I fixed a transcript: when does the article update?

Within 10 minutes. The plugin caches voice note data so it doesn't call Vokyt on every visit.

Listens aren't counted, why?

Your blog's domain must be in your Vokyt site's allowed domains. The Settings › Vokyt page warns you if it isn't.

What if I change themes?

Nothing to do: the player automatically picks up the new theme's font, link colour and dark mode.
