Record a short voice note next to a paragraph. Vokyt transcribes it and plays it for your readers, with the transcript right in the page.

== Description ==

Readers skim. A 30-second voice note from the author, right next to the paragraph it explains, makes them stop and listen. Vokyt adds those voice notes to your articles, without a podcast setup.

* **Vokyt voice note block**: record from the editor, upload an audio file, or pick a voice note you already sent. Vokyt levels the sound and transcribes it within seconds.
* **Transcript in the page**: the transcript is rendered with the player, so search engines and screen readers can read it. The spoken word is highlighted as it plays.
* **Reading-friendly player**: inherits your theme's font and link colour, follows dark mode, starts when the paragraph reaches the middle of the screen (if the reader opted in), one voice note at a time.
* **Listening stats** in your Vokyt dashboard: views, plays, drop-off, without cookies or personal data.
* **Dictation**: speak, and the text is written into the editor, cleaned of "ums" but never rewritten.
* **Shortcode** for the classic editor and page builders: `[vokyt note="note_…"]`.

The plugin needs a Vokyt account (free plan available) on [vokyt.cc](https://vokyt.cc).

= External service =

This plugin relies on the Vokyt service (https://vokyt.cc) to store, transcribe and play voice notes.

* When a writer records or uploads a voice note, the audio file is sent to Vokyt, which transcribes it with a speech-to-text provider (Mistral AI in Europe, or OpenAI, as chosen in the Vokyt dashboard). Dictation recordings are transcribed the same way and are not stored.
* On your public pages, readers' browsers load the player script and audio files from Vokyt, and send anonymous listening events (view, play, progress). No cookie, IP address or reader identifier is stored.
* Your secret key stays on your WordPress server and is never sent to browsers.

== Frequently Asked Questions ==

= How long can a voice note be? =

Up to 3 minutes. Short voice notes (30 seconds to 1 minute 30) work best.

= Can I edit the transcript? =

Yes, in your Vokyt dashboard. The article picks up the corrected transcript within 10 minutes.

= Does it work with the classic editor? =

Yes, with the shortcode `[vokyt note="note_…"]`. The voice note ID is shown on its page in the Vokyt dashboard.

= Does the player slow down my pages? =

The player script (about 7 KB compressed) only loads on pages that show a voice note, and the voice note data is rendered in the HTML, so there is no extra request before it appears.
